2013 National Habitat Women Build Week

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s team up for National Women Build Week

Local volunteers join women across the United States to build affordable housing in their communities

More than 100 women representing 7 companies including Lowe’s Heroes will volunteer on Macon Area Habitat for Humanity’s construction site in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 4-12. Now in its sixth year, National Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day to help build affordable housing in their local communities.

During this week long event, local Macon Women (and a few good men) Build volunteers will work to help complete the Georgia Forestry Community Build home located at 621 Melvin Avenue in the southeast Bibb County neighborhood of Lynmore Estates.  On May 10th the Jones family will become the newest Macon Habitat home owner when their new home will be dedicated.  This home brings to 90 the number of families that Macon Area Habitat for Humanity has served since its chartering in 1986.  In addition to work completed on the Jones family home, Women Build volunteers will also be helping to deconstruct two former block duplexes that will be rehabbed into two new single family dwellings by the end of the summer.
